OUR STAFF
VOCAL COACH, Courtney Crouse
Courtney Crouse has been trained by the world famous soprano, Carol Vaness, and with one of America’s leading vocal pedagogues, Paul Kiesgen. She was an Associate Instructor of voice at America’s largest operatic training ground, Indiana University, and has taught private lessons throughout the United States for almost 10 years. In 2009 she will complete her Doctorate in Music from Indiana University. She sings operatic repertoire, musical theater and is the featured singer with the Nate Sutton Jazz Quintet.
Courtney on her teaching methods:
“Every student I have ever taught can now sing louder, softer, higher, lower, with more flow and more intention. All this can be done without changing the qualities that make your voice unique. My focus is on singing with freedom by finding the most natural and engaged place from which to sing. This applies to singers of any genre; pop, rock, musical theater, jazz, classical and opera.”
Courtney on Dramatic Coachings for Opera Singers:
“I have always been interested in acting for singers, and have had the opportunity to conduct several Acting for Singers Workshops presenting several styles of acting to help students find what connects with them, what helps them come alive onstage. This experience, along with a thorough knowledge of acting methods [Courtney has a minor in stage direction of opera from Indiana University] has shown me that my particular gifts are most suited to one-on-one dramatic coachings. I understand the unique problems that audition arias can present and can help you find a way to present yourself and your character in the most dynamic way possible. I can help you discover what to do during long interludes, how to make melismas and repeated phrases make dramatic sense, and how to find goals and intentions. The most amazing part about clear dramatic intention is that our singing inevitably improves. Dramatic coaching is a wonderful playground for me, and I love being able to help and inspire.”
